Microsoft's XP Media Centre Edition 2005 provides PVR capabilities for
personal computers. It allows users to browse, watch, and record both
analog and digital television. It can record over-the-air, cable or
satellite TV broadcasts.
The Media Centre software provides a program guide with search
capabilities. Unlike Tivo and ReplayTV, there is no monthly service
charge.
By connecting a high-definition tuner card to a computer running Windows
XP Media Center Edition 2005, it is possible to watch and record HDTV
broadcasts.
